"Skill and confidence are an unconquered
army" |
The
Centre has a substantial collection illustrating life in the
Army during wartime and this material is also incorporated into our Key Aspects section
including personal experiences of the campaign in North Africa. The
collection encompasses the various countries caught up in this conflict
and we are proud to include stories relating also to the women's
services in this section all in biographical form and supported with
relevant photographs, audio-clips and documents.
Allied: British and CommonwealthThe British armed forces were involved in many major campaigns during the Second World War across the world, including North Africa, Europe and Asia. The Centre holds a substantial collection of varied personal experiences encompassing all events affecting British forces, as well as memories and memorabilia of those in the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) and FANY (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry). These pages present a selection of those experiences, in the form of biographies, photographs, documents and extracts from memoirs. Additional material can be seen on our Key Aspects pages. The armed forces of the Commonwealth countries fought in major actions across the world, including the campaigns in North Africa, the Far East, southern and north-west Europe. We aim to feature personal experiences of those involved in these campaigns as time permits but as a newly developing section of the archive we would like to encourage more contributors. Should you wish to contribute memories or memorabilia please see how to Donate Material. Allied: Europe![]() Allied: Europe As yet no articles This area of the archive is developing and we would like to expand our holdings to encompass personal experiences of those involved in the armed forces of European countries for example Russia, the Netherlands, Poland, France and Greece. Clearly this would include experience in post-occupation regarding constituted forces serving alongside British or Allied formations. Should you wish to contribute memories or memorabilia please see how to Donate Material Allied: USAThe American armed forces fought major campaigns across the world, including actions in North Africa, the Far East, southern and north-west Europe. The Centre holds personal experiences encompassing these major campaigns but as a developing area of the archive, we would welcome further memories or memorabilia from men and women of the US armed forces. Should you wish to contact us, please see how to Donate Material. AxisThe German Army fought in major battles through Eastern and Western Europe, in North Africa, the Balkans and Russia. For the Italians their campaigns included Abyssinia, Somaliland, Eritrea, North Africa, Greece and the Balkans, and for some units the Eastern Front, as well as Sicily and in a "number of ways" in Italy itself. Japan's Imperial Army fought across the Pacific in a lengthy campaign. We aim to feature personal experiences of those involved in these campaigns as time permits but as a newly developing section of the archive we would like to encourage more contributors. Please see how to Donate Material for more details.. | |
