THE FINANCES OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR EXPERIENCE CENTRE

The Centre has taken significant steps to reduce it's costs whilst continuing to meet its aims, this means we need to raise around £80,000 every year to remain “in business”. We have a small number of Centre employees, with a good deal of support in interviewing and accessioning thankfully being done by wonderful Volunteers. The cost of housing and protecting the archive, indexing and making it available for researches and students is not insignificant.

There are then a host of other items of necessary expenditure to keep the Centre actively securing more lives and using the resource for education. For example a teaching pack for schools: 'What Was It Like For Children In The Second World War' and our new DVD of wartime experiences kindly sponsored by several donors and the result of their support, the contribution from those included in the DVD and a huge amount of work at the centre in researching, preparing and editing the material and supporting documents for teachers.

The Centre relies entirely on voluntary donations. It receives no government or local government financial assistance.

We are fortunate to have some key sponsors:

Trailfinders' Charitable Trust, has given significant donations and continue to be very supportive in sponsoring the production and distribution costs of the Centre's journal, Everyone's War.

Serco Defence and Aerospace kindly sponsor the costs of the annual Autumn Lecture Series, enabling the Centre to retain the proceeds of ticket sales and use them toward supporting the centre work.

There is much we would like to accomplish especially in digitising the indexes of the centre making them more accessible and able to be used via the internet. Our website whilst full of interesting items is only a small window and in need of a rework to best utilise the technologies available today .

If you are able and willing to support financially the Centre's important work, there are a number of ways in which you can help :-
